Yes, Jerry is Simon's dad. Which probably isn't surprising since "Smith" is such an uncommon last name.

George's journey of self-discovery began after being labeled a "poindexter" by a stand-up comedian. Vowing to never again sit in the front row, George's sudden realization that he was, in fact, an utter nerd was met with both humbled acceptance and a new sense of mission.
